Attorney: Alex Jones is just a 'performance artist' playing 'a character'

So, Alex Jones is a "performance artist" when it comes to convincing a court that he's not out of his mind. Why should anyone believe what he says on the air, then?

If it's all just an act, why should anyone take him seriously? Why should President Trump listen to Jones?

What kind of political credibility does Jones have, if he claims that he doesn't mean the things he says or does?

If Jones is just performing a role, mouthing words that he doesn't really believe or think, why should anyone care about him, apart from the entertainment value he offers?

I wonder how Jones' faithful audience would react if they heard him preface his every show with the disclaimer, "I am a performance artist."

What gives Jones power is his audience's belief in his so-called truths and in the authenticity of the claims that he makes.

From NBC News:

The Alex Jones who told his legions of "Infowars" listeners that bogus stories about the U.S. government being behind the 9/11 attacks and about Hillary Clinton operating a pedophile ring out of a Washington D.C. pizza joint is really "a performance artist."

That's according to Jones' own lawyer — not the mainstream media that the right-wing radio jock derides as "fake news."

"He's playing a character" and is nothing like his online persona, attorney Randall Wilhite reportedly insisted in a Texas courtroom at a pre-trial hearing ahead of the right wing radio jock's custody battle with ex-wife Kelly Jones.

Judging Jones by his Infowars performances would be like judging Jack Nicholson by his depiction of the Joker on "Batman," Wilhite told state District Judge Orlinda Naranjo last week, the Austin American-Statesman reported.

Kelly Jones is seeking sole or joint custody of her three children, ages 14, 12 and 9, with her ex-husband, an ardent supporter of President Trump who broadcasts from his Austin home.

In some sense, Jones is and always has been the king of "fake news." While the traditional media has let the public down numerous times over the past several decades, Jones crept into the trust vacuum and has become an entrenched purveyor of conspiracies and false flag theories.

The worst part about Jones is that as soon as he talks about something, even if it might be a legitimate conspiracy,  it automatically enters tin foil hat territory and nobody can ever discuss it with any credibility ever again. In that sense, I can see why some might think that Alex Jones himself is a part of the NWO or deep state; some kind of psy-ops campaign to discredit any critic of the deep state or political or corporate establishments as a whole.

I can hear many of Jones' die hard supporters trying to explain away the "performance artist" comments by his attorney:

"This so-called custody trial is just a false flag to distract us from the secret fact that the entire court system is controlled by the government!

"Yes, the Illuminati puppet masters are secretly controlling the government, which in turn controls the court system, which in turn controls all child custody issues, which in turn is controlling his ex-wife to hire a lawyer, who controls his ex-wife who is spraying chem trails all over the streets of Austin to control our minds and conspire against."

That explanation is about as valid as any other paranoid babble we hear every day on conspiracy radio shows.

The first example was not paranoid enough for you? Try this one instead:

"What you don't understand is that Satan wants the Global Elites to build the God-machine, an AI able to predict the future because only God can do that. To this end the Generals at the Pentagon are taking the DMT (a debilitating hallucinogen), so they can talk to the clockwork elves who they believe are aliens but are actual demons telling the Generals to forego research on the interstellar travel and life extension technology.

"Instead they are pumping dollars into a secret research facility run by University of Texas in Bastrop, Texas, where they are experimenting on putting monkeys into the Matrix because that is the Leftist Global Elites' ultimate goal for the majority of humans.

"And since Alex Jones is the only person on the planet speaking this truth, not only has the Global Elites convinced his wife to drag him into court to steal his kids, she' been directly possessed by a demon who is working on behalf of Satan to help build the God-machine, and they could get the thing done just as soon as Mr. Jones no longer has custody of his children."

Please note that the entire 1st paragraph is constructed out of things Jones said in two 5 minute clips and one episode of his public access show from the 90's. Seriously, just lookup 'Alex Jones clockwork elves'.

Even though many people have figured out that Jones has done a remarkable job of melding his paranoid world-view with a televangelist's drive and greed, he still seems to be making enough to be able to pay $43,000/month to his ex-wife without it slowing him down.
