Mistrial declared in Michael Slager trial

A mistrial has been declared in the murder trial of former North Charleston, South Carolina, police officer Michael Slager, who fatally shot an unarmed Walter Scott in April 2015. The jury deliberated for 22 hours in the case.

Slager was standing trial for shooting 50-year-old Scott to death in North Charleston after stopping him for having a broken taillight. Cellphone video taken by a bystander of the shooting was shown widely in the media and on the internet and sparked national outrage.
